Let us quickly give you a brief history on Google’s Penguin algorithm incase you’re not already familiar with it. Zoom back to April 2012, this is when Google launched the first Penguin update to help catch out sites that were being naughty by having spammy or thin content sites and as a result started penalising them. However on the flip site, they were also rewarding sites that offered high quality, rich and detailed content at the very same time.
In particular, sites deemed to be buying links or obtaining them through black hat sources (a set of unethical SEO tactics), were being severely punished and their Google rankings were sent plummeting. But Google being Google realised not all people were doing it because it was a way of cheating to show higher up the search engine result pages (SERPs), but because some were getting links as a way to boost their site because they genuinely did not know any better.
Lets face it, how many people thought for years that the more back links your site had the better it would rank? In a word, lots, but let’s not digress. Google then introduced the disavow links tool where it allowed webmasters to remove spammy links and regain rankings and most importantly, ethically.
So Penguin Goes Real Time
So let’s make this simple. It was as you now know launched in 2012, but it was updated periodically which meant spammy sites were not always detected and penalised with immediate effect. Well things have just changed as Google is saying the latest Penguin 4.0 Update, is part of the real time algorithm and anyone caught doing unethical methodologies to enhance their sites ranking will be punished with immediate effect. About time too!
Now if you’ve been good you’ve got nothing to worry about. However if you have been employing a Digital Marketer to do your SEO and all of the sudden you’re seeing your rankings fall beyond the darkest depths of Google, chances are you could be suffering as a result of the latest algorithmic changes.
So How Do We Deal With This Penguin Update?
At this point you can do one of three things. The first being to approach the SEO you employed originally and ask them to fix it, but chances are they wont be interested in entertaining you, as they got you up the rankings initially when you needed them to, or they have gone out of business as people clocked onto their work ethics a lot sooner than you did!
The second thing is to use our Free SEO Report to get a quick over view of what’s what and also use Google’s Disavow links tool to get these God awful links eradicated. It takes time but it’s worth doing without a shadow of a doubt.
Last but not least, you can give us a tinkle and we will gladly discuss a Google recovery program with yourselves and let you know exactly what needs to be done in order to get you back up to speed.
It’s Not All Bad So Just Relax
So in a nutshell, if you let Hatfish sort out your current Google penalty and then moving forward, you only ever carry out ethical white hat SEO techniques, when you do eventually hear of Google’s latest algorithmic update, your heart will no longer sink and you wont be scared to go and check your rankings.
Just remember Google favours the good and when any futures updates come out, the only way for you to go is up the rankings and not down.
